Molecular tools are increasingly important in modern animal disease investigation. In view of this Veterinary Laboratory, Dhangadhi has established molecular biology section with the latest administrative reform. This section has biosafety level 2 facilities for handling infectious agents. With the recording of COVID-19 outbreak in the country, this section has been utilized by provincial public health authority for the detection of SARS-CoV2.Similary, this section also has facility for ELISA and other serological tests. Most of the samples are submitted to this unit by the post mortem unit. Rapid test (antigen based) are used for the initial diagnosis of New Castle Disease, Infectious Bursal Disease, Avian Influenza, Infectious Bronchitis and Rabies. For the further confirmative diagnosis of Avian Influenza the samples are sent to the Central Veterinary Laboratory for Polymerase Chain Reaction. Soon the section will start polymerase chain reaction based diagnosis for important diseases of livestock and poultry.
